Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni on Monday called upon the mobile telecom operators to provide free or low-cost internet package for students to afford the distance learning amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
Many educational institutions are now carrying out academic activities online amid the pandemic. But, it is not possible for many students to afford the internet to participate in the online classes, she said“So, we are discussing with the mobile telecom operators to provide cost-free or low-cost internet for the students and we hopeful that they will consider it positively,” said the minister. Dipu Moni made the remarks while addressing a virtual seminar as the chief guest. Awami League’s sub-committee on education and human resources organised the seminar with the committee’s chairman Prof Abdul Khalek in the chair. Addressing as a special guest, Post and Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar said the government expenditure on the internet should be seen as big investment for spreading education and building a talented nation.
“The field of future education will not only be confined to classroom. So, the classroom arrangements need to be digitalized besides the conventional chalk-duster method. Otherwise we will not be able to create skilled human resources for facing challenges of Fourth Industrial Revolution,” he said
