20 bus drivers, passengers fined in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM: A mobile court fined 20 drivers and passengers a total of Tk 4,000 for defying health safety measures at public transports in the port city on Friday.

The mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Md Umar Faruk of district administration carried out the drive at public transports in the city’s GEC and WASA intersections.

Magistrate Faruk said they observed that many of the transports including bus, CNG-run auto-rickshaws and private cars were not following proper safety measures for protection from transmission of the highly contagious coronavirus.

A total of 10 drivers were fined a total of Tk 3,000 for not keeping hand sanitizers and using fake and adulterated ones.

Besides, 10 other drivers and passengers were also fined Tk 1,000 for not maintaining social distancing measures in their private vehicles and CNG-run auto-rickshaws, he said.

“We also encouraged the auto-rickshaw drivers to follow the proper guidelines to protect themselves from the virus,” the magistrate said.

He also informed that they will continue the drives until the situation becomes normal.

Mentionable, a total of 9,405 persons were detected as corona positive while 187 of them died and 1,131 recovered in Chattogram district till Friday.
