The death toll from coronavirus infection has reached almost 2,000 in the country since the first case was detected on March 8 this year.
“A total of 1,968 people died of coronavirus infection in the country till Friday. The death rate of the covid-19 is 1.26 percent,” said Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general (admin) of the DGHS.She came up with the information while addressing the regular health bulletin of the DGHS.
According to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 1,56,391 Covid-19 cases have so far been detected and 1,968 people died of the virus infection while a total of 68,048 patients recovered.
“Some 42 people died of the virus while 3,114 people have contracted the disease across the country in the last 24 hours till 8:00am on Friday,” Dr Nasima said.
Among the deceased, 32 were male and 10 female, while 18 were from Dhaka, 10 from Chattogram, three from Khulna, three from Rajshahi, four from Rangpur, three from Sylhet and one from Barishal division, she said.
Of them, one was between 11-20 years old, three within 21-30, one between 31-40, five within 41-50, 11 between 51-60, 11 aged between 61-70, seven were within 71-80 and three were between 81-90 years old, the DGHS official added.
A total of 1,606 Covid-19 patients recovered in the past 24 hours. So far, 68,048 people have recovered.Dr Nasima said the current infection rate is 21.26 percent and the total infection rate so far stands at 19.13 percent, the death rate stands at 1.26 percent and the recovery rate is 43.51 percent.
A total of 877 people were put under isolation throughout the country in the last 24 hours, she said.
She said some 14,781 samples were collected and 14,650 were tested till Friday morning at 63 labs across the country, including in Dhaka. A total of 8,17347 samples were tested till Friday morning.
