CHATTOGRAM: State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said proper punishment to the persons responsible for tragic launch accident in the River Buriganga will be ensured after investigation.

The probe committee formed in this connection will also submit its report in time, he said.

The state minister said these while talking to the journalists after inaugurating a 60-bed corona unit and a hospital building at Chattogram Port on Wednesday.

The state minister said they have plan to buy not only rescue vessel, but also helicopter for port as Matarbari Deep Sea Port, Bay Terminal, PCT and many other projects are being implemented by the Chattogram Port Authority (CPA).

“Chattogram Port secured 64th position among 100 best container handling ports in the world within 10 years and we want to see the port at 30th to 50th position,” he said.

Lauding the roles of people involved with the port activities, the state minister said the Chattogram port’s operation was not suspended for a single moment due to some brave initiatives.

“We have responsibilities to the people of Chattogram and we will stand by them through providing covid-19 treatments,” said Khalid.

Terming Chattogram Port a lifeline for the country, he said efforts are on to advance removing the crises which hit the economy following outbreak of the coronavirus.
