Poet Ahmad Khaled dies

CHATTOGRAM: Poet Ahmad Khaled Kaiser, elder brother of Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus, passed away at Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Saturday.

The 65-year-old poet was also the elder brother of Dramatist Ahmed Iqbal Haider.

Iqbal Haider said his brother had been suffering from several diseases including diabetes and high blood-pressure while was also affected with lung infection before death.  He was admitted to the ICU of CMCH with diabetes and high blood-pressure on Sunday last and he breathed his last at 11:15am on Saturday, Haider said.

Ahmed Khaled was detected as corona negative in tests conducted twice after admitting to the hospital, he said. The poet will be buried at family graveyard at Patiya upazila in the district, he added.

Meanwhile, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Ahmed Khaled Kaiser. In a condolence message, the minister remembered the contribution of Khaled Kaiser to poetry as well as literature.

Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary, prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family. On the other hand, Chattogram City Corporation Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin, different individuals and organisations expressed profound shock at the sad demise of the cultural activists.

They also conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members and prayed for salvation of the departed soul.
