National Sports Council (NSC) is ready to hand over country’s stadiums for health ministry to turn those into isolation center or field hospital to fight coronavirus pandemic, said NSC Secretary Masood Karim.

“We will hand over stadiums to fight against pandemic coronavirus if needed. Health ministry hasn’t sent any requisition yet, but we can let them use at any time. However, some of indoor stadiums including Mirpur Indoor Stadium are being used now for temporary camps of law enforcement agencies,” said NSC secretary to daily sun on Thursday.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell earlier announced that they would be willing to turn all sports stadiums across the country into center for mass quarantine. The decision was made in a meeting on April 4. After the announcement, a representative team of Bangladesh Army visited several stadiums including Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.

“A representative team of Bangladesh Army visited the stadium on April. They observed dressing rooms and hospitality box. We did some renovations at that time. We haven’t got any further instruction from them yet. We have now opened our stadium and have been preparing wicket as the government eased lockdown on last week,” said Fazle Bari Khan, manager of Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
