Doctor provided with plasma therapy tests negative

CHATTOGRAM: One more corona patient died in the port city on Monday.

With this, a total of 78 corona infected patients died in Chattogram so far.

The deceased is an 85-year-old resident of Akbar Shah area of the city.

On the other hand, two patients including a medical staff and police constable died with corona symptoms at Chattogram General Hospital (CGH) and Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on the same day.

The deceased were identified as Hasina Begum, 60, medical staff of CGH, and Mamun Uddin, 28, member of Chattogram Metropolitan Police.  Among them, Hasina died at ICU of the CGH at 8.00am while Mamun at CMCH at 11.00am.

Besides, 116 more patients were detected as corona positive at the three existing testing centres in Chattogram and Cox's Bazar on Sunday.  Of the patients, 89 are from the city and 27 from different upazilas in the district. Chattogram District Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said 409 samples were tested at three labs in Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar, and 116 of them were found as positive on Sunday.

Chattogram Railway Hospital and Holy Crescent Hospital started admitting corona patients from Monday, the civil surgeon also informed.  "We should be more conscious as the general holidays ended and people started moving," he observed.

Moreover, the first patient who was provided with plasma therapy in Chattogram recovered from the virus on Sunday.

The patient Dr Samirul Islam, associate professor of Chattogram Medical College (CMC), was detected as corona negative after providing the therapy, said CMCH Medicine Department Professor Dr Aniruddha Ghosh.

“Dr Samirul now feels better, but he needs time to recover fully as his lung was affected by the coronavirus,” said Dr Ghosh.

Mentionable, two patients who recovered from the corona donated plasma for Dr Samirul on May 26.

They are Md Tareque and Police Constable Arun Chakma.
