Conscious Consumers Society (CCS) demanded steps to stop the hike in bus and minibus fare and reconstitute the fare committee of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA).
They also demanded government incentive to maintain physical distance in buses and minibuses instead of increasing fare during the coronavirus pandemic. In a press release on Sunday, Palash Mahmud, executive director of CCS, raised the demands.
He said, “It is unnecessary and a burden on citizens. Millions of people are being jobless due to the shutdown amid the outbreak.”
The fare of buses and minibuses have been increased by 60 percent, as bus owners have been directed to carry 50 percent passengers to limit the transmission of coronavirus.
