Vettori comes forward with donation

Bangladesh National Cricket Team spin consultant Daniel Vettori decided to donate a portion of his salary for the lower ranked employees of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), said officials.

BCB appointed the former New Zealand captain as Bangladesh National Cricket Team spin bowling consultant and the 40-year old Black Caps great has agreed to work with the Bangladesh spinners up to ICC T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia.

He is expected to be available for around 100 days in his role with Bangladesh which combines preparation phase, series’ and tournaments including Tigers’ Tour to India 2019, Asia Cup and Tigers’ Tour to New Zealand in 2020.

Vettori gets USD3500 per day as salary, which after tax is reduced to USD 2500.

“He had decided to donate a part of his salary to our employees who are poor. He had unofficially informed about his desire to BCB Cricket Operations officials,” said a BCB official.

It was learnt that Vettori is expected to donate USD 5000.

Few days back, BCB had donated TK 50 Lakh to athletes of 23 different federations while Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) continued its financial support to the less privileged and insolvent cricketers and sportsmen during the coronavirus pandemic.

On the eve of the Eid, BCB on May 21 handed over financial aid to 1,600 cricketers who play in Dhaka metropolis cricket leagues, but are not under any BCB contract.

The cricketers of Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League and First Division leagues received Tk 10,000 each while the cricketers of the 2nd and 3rd Division leagues got Tk 8,000 each.

Earlier, BCB provided financial support to 96 first-class cricketers and female cricketers. They got Tk 30,000 and Tk 20,000 respectively.

Cricketers are also helping the distressed people during this pandemic.
