Academic Niloufer, businessman Morshedul no more

The nation has lost some enlightened personalities, including an academic and a businessman, in the last one week.

On Tuesday, Sunbeams School Founder Principal Niloufer Manzur, wife of Apex Group Chairman Syed Manzur Elahi, died with coronavirus, also known as Sars-CoV-2, at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the capital. She was 74.

Niloufer was one of pioneers of English medium schooling in Bangladesh. Bashundhara Group, one of the country’s leading business conglomerates, expressed profound shock at the demise of the torchbearer.

In a condolence message, the Bashundhara Family paid homage to her memory, saying Niloufer Manzur was the first to feel the necessity of English education and took it to new heights by founding Sunbeams School. The nation will recall her contribution forever.

The Group also extended sympathy to the bereaved family members and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.

On the other hand, S Alam Group Director Morshedul Alam died of Covid-19, the respiratory illness, at Chattogram General Hospital on the night of 22 May. He was 65.

Morshedul, elder brother of S Alam Group Chairman Saiful Alam, was also a director of NRB Global Bank. He was laid to rest at his family graveyard in Patiya Upazila of Chattogram Wednesday night. Information Minister Hasan Mahmud, also a member of parliament from Chattogram-17 constituency, expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Morshedul Alam.

In addition, Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan expressed his condolence over the death. In a message, the Bashundhara Group Chairman also prayed for salvation of the departed soul and condoled with the family members of the deceased.
