The 121st birth anniversary of our national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was celebrated across the country on Monday, though in a limited scale due to coronavirus outbreak.
Educational institutions and socio-cultural organizations observed the day arranging online-based programmes.The main celebration of Nazrul’s birth anniversary took place in Dhaka University where the poet is buried.
In the morning, State Minister for Cultural Affairs K M Khalid laid a wreath on poet’s grave with Cultural Affairs Secretary Dr Md Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal and Kabi Nazrul Institute Executive Director Md Abdur Razzak Bhuiyan in attendance.
Dhaka University authority, led by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman, also laid a wreath on the grave of the poet.
After that they took part in special prayers seeking eternal peace of the poet’s departed soul.
Dhaka University Teachers Association General Secretary Prof Md Nizamul Haque Bhuiyan and Proctor Dr AKM Golam Rabbani joined the programmes.
Marking the day, Bangladesh Television (BTV) and other private TV channels aired a Cultural Affairs Ministry-made and 50 minute long programme tilted ‘Jago Amrito Piasee’.However, the observance of Nazrul’s birth anniversary got an additional dimension this year as his impressive Eid song ‘O Mon Ramzan-er Oi Rozar Sheshey Elo Khushir Eid’ was played everywhere.
