Khulna dist admin stands by cyclone-hit people

KHULNA: Khulna district administration has taken prompt measures for reconstruction of damaged houses and distribution of cash assistance and relief materials among the people affected by the cyclone ‘Amphan’ that made landfall in the coastal districts on Wednesday evening.

“The work on assessment of overall damages of houses, embankments and roads caused by the cyclone as well as distribution of relief materials and safe drinking water and repairing damaged electricity supply lines in the affected areas, including different upazilas of Khulna and Satkhira districts, started from morning,” said Khulna Divisional Commissioner Dr. Muhammad Anwar Hossain Howlader.

He assured the people of government assistance while visiting different costal upazilas including Dacope and Batiaghata on Thursday afternoon and distributed relief materials, including corrugated iron sheets, dry food, pure drinking water and cash aid as part of the government’s instant efforts to mitigate the ‘Amphan’ affected people’s sufferings.

“The severe Cyclonic storm ‘Amphan’ totally damaged 36,000 homesteads and partially damaged 42,000 homesteads in the low-lying coastal areas,” said Khulna Deputy Commissioner (DC) Helal Hossain, adding that least 5 lakh people of 68 unions under nine upazilas of Khulna have been affected.
