1,400 Imams, Khatibs, Muazzins get cash support in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI: A total of 1,400 Imams, Khatibs, Muazzins and Khadims from 450 mosques in the city got cash support and rice as Eid special gift of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina amid the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, reports BSS.

They were given a total of Taka seven lakh and 14 tonnes of rice as part as part of the government’s present effort of reaching instant humanitarian support to tackle the present Covid-19 related troubled situation.

Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) handed over the supports to the beneficiaries at its conference hall Thursday afternoon through maintaining social distancing and protective measures to stem the virus spread.

City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and its Chief Executive Officer Dr Sharif Uddin and Secretary Abu Hayat Rahmatullah, former divisional director of Islamic foundation Syed Amin Uddin Mahmud, President of Ulama Welfare Council Ayub Ali and Principal of Jameya Islamia Shahmukhdum Darga Madrasha were present at the distribution ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Liton said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already provided Taka 5,000 to each of the country’s mosques.

He also said the premier also dispersed cash support among the country’s quami madrasha.
