The number of deaths in coronavirus infection and detection of new cases has been increasing day by day as the death from the virus and coronavirus infection cases have crossed all previous records in the last 24 hours till Thursday morning.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), some 10,262 samples were tested at 47 labs across the country, including in Dhaka, during the period.“Twenty-two people died and 1,773 new coronavirus infected people were detected in the last 24 hours,” said Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General (administration) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The DGHS official came up with the information while addressing a regular health bulletin at the DGHS headquarters in Mohakhali of the capital.
Prof Nasima said 395 more coronavirus infected patients were released from various hospitals after making full recovery from the extremely infectious disease in the past 24 hours. A total of 5,602 people have returned to their homes after full recovery from different hospitals.
New cases of coronavirus infection and deaths from the virus are increasing in the country despite the efforts to contain its further spread.
Among the deceased, 10 were from Dhaka, eight from Chattogram, three from Sylhet and another was from Mymensingh division, the DGHS official said.
Of them, 19 were male and three female, the DGHS official said, adding that two of them were between 11-20 years old, one between 31-40, two between 41-50, 10 within 51-60, three between 61-70, two within 71-80 and the other two were within 81-90 years old.A total of 154 people were put under isolation in the last 24 hours, she added.
According to the latest reports, 1,617 new cases were recorded in 24 hours till Wednesday morning, 1251 on Tuesday, 1602 on Monday, 1273 on Sunday, 930 on Saturday, 1202 on Friday, 1,041 on Thursday and 1,163 on Wednesday while the DGHS records show that 969 coronavirus infection cases were detected on Tuesday.
Dr Nasima, also in charge of Director General of the DGHS, said the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Bangladesh stands at 28,511 with 408 deaths so far. Around 2,14,114 samples were tested in the country to diagnose the Covid-19 disease.
Health officials said that the number of people recovering from the Covid-19 is also on the rise, but at the same time the number of new cases has also gone up as test facilities have been expanded.
Prof Nasima said 50,502 people are staying in home quarantine, 3,880 in institutional quarantine and 3,897 in hospitals and other isolation.
Bangladesh is now in the 12th week of coronavirus infection while the number of deaths from Covid-19 disease and new infection cases has been increasing day by day.
The World Health Organisation declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11. Bangladesh confirmed its first coronavirus cases on March 8 and the first death on March 18.
The number of Covid-19 cases went up in recent days as test facilities have been expanded across the country.
