Tokyo stocks close higher

TOKYO: Tokyo stocks closed higher Wednesday as a comparatively weak yen helped lift exporters, while hopes the Bank of Japan will unroll measures to help small companies hit by the coronavirus along with expectations Japan's economy will soon be fully reopen kept the mood upbeat.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 161.70 points, or 0.79 percent, from Tuesday to close the day at 20,595.15, reports Xinhua.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 8.64 points, or 0.58 percent, to finish at 1,494.69.

Nonferrous metal, construction, and oil and coal product issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.
