Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industry Corporation (BSCIC) will provide full support to beekeepers and mowals for collecting honey during the coronavirus crisis.

“Due to the limited movement of traffic across the country, mowals (honey collectors) and beekeepers are facing problem in collecting honey. As the honey collection season has begun in the Sundarbans, BSCIC will provide all sorts of supports to the mowal for collecting honey,” said an Industries Ministry press release.

Project Director of the BSCIC Beekeeping by Modern Method Project Khandaker Aminuzzaman said that the season of honey collection across the country is from October 15 to May 31, reports BSS.

“At present, there are more than 2,500 bee farms in the country while the number of bee boxes is more than 1.20 lakh. From the farms, around 10,000 tons of honey is produced every year. This year, 8,000 tons of honey has already been collected,” he added.

As the season of colleting honey from the Sundarbans is ongoing, he said, BSCIC has suggested the mowals to communicate with BSCIC Khulna, Bagerhat, Patuakhali and Satkhira district offices.

He said that the mowals will get all sorts of assistance from the offices in this regard.
