Incepta Pharmaceuticals has come forward with its medicine 'Reconil' that has shown promise in treating the deadly disease COVID-19.

Keeping in mind the country’s future course of action against coronavirus, Incepta has delivered 30 lakh Reconil tablets to Central Medical Store Depot (CMSD) of the government, said pharmacist Mohamad Mizanur Rahman of Incepta Pharmaceuticals.

Hydroxychloroquine, initially developed as a treatment for malaria, is largely being used for various auto-immune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and lupus erythematosus, and it is now being used for the treatment of coronavirus.

Hydroxychloroquine is now available in Bangladesh. Only two pharmaceutical companies make the medicine but Incepta’s product is most widely used and popular. Incepta Pharmaceuticals has been marketing the product for over 15 years under the brand name 'Reconil'.

Mizanur Rahman told the daily sun that they have enough stock of the medicine.

Reconil is approved by the United Kingdom Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (UK MHRA), the drug regulatory authority of the UK.

In various studies conducted in the USA, France, China and other places, Hydroxychloroquine has helped speed the recovery in a number of patients who were mildly ill from the COVID-19.

Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA), Bangladesh has instructed the local pharmaceutical companies to make the medicine and keep it in their stock.

Incepta has been successfully exporting Reconil to the United Kingdom (UK) for many years while the company also donated 3 lakh tablets to DGDA.

Incepta will launch Favipiravir, Ritonavir or Lopinavir combination and also try to launch Remidesivir and other drugs that are being considered as a potential treatment for COVID-19 by many global experts, said the pharmacist.

Not everyone globally makes the medicine. Now this product has been repurposed to be used in treatment of coronavirus and Incepta has scaled up their production to meet any future demand.

Many countries are willing to take the medicine from Incepta, but the company is not currently exporting this medicine.

Incepta believes that local population should come first. Already this medicine has been made available throughout the country in various chemist shops.
