Local administration has put Ambagan in Narayanganj sadar upazila on lockdown, isolating around 200 families from its neighbouring areas after a 55-year-old resident died of COVID-19 in the area.

The patient died in Kurmitola General Hospital on Saturday and was buried at Dhaka's Khilgaon Taltola Graveyard under the supervision of Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), said Narayanganj Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Nahida Barik.

Although he died around 9:00 am on the day, IEDCR informed the local administration around 1:00 am on Sunday that he was infected with the deadly virus and asked them to take measures in this regard, the UNO said. The deceased did not come into contact with any foreigners and no one from his family has returned from abroad. He stayed at home and went to mosque for prayers, the UNO said.
