RMG workers’ entry highly risky: DSCC

Dhaka South City Corporation mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khkon said that the entry of a large number of garments workers in the city poses a threat to the spread of Covid-19.

The mayor said, “Under the present situation, hundreds of thousands garment workers have been entering in the city that may make the situation worse.

I was informed the concerned by the city dwellers over phone.” The mayor came up with the comments talking at inauguration programme food home delivery to corona affected people at Nagar Bhaban.  The mayor urged commerce minister of reconsidering the opening of garment factory under the circumstances.

DSCC mayor Sayeed Khokon earlier launched two hotline numbers for the people who feel embarrassed to receive relief in public and standing in queue.   DSCC press release said that as the DSCC got a significant number of calls for relief it has inaugurated the delivery to door steps.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh on Saturday reported nine new coronavirus cases and two deaths. So far, the country has confirmed 70 cases and eight deaths.

 The global death toll from coronavirus jumped to 59,203 on Saturday. COVID-19 has so far infected 1,117,918 people around the world, according to Worldometer. Coronavirus, first reported in China in December last year, is affecting 205 countries and territories around the world and two international cruise ships.
