3 of a family suffer burns in city

Three members of a family received burns in a fire at a tin-roofed house in Bhasantek of the capital early on Sunday.

They are Mohammad Jakir, 40, his wife Rani Begum, 35, and their son Riad, 15. SI Bachchu, who is in charge of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital police outpost, quoted medics as saying that the trio is in critical condition.

Jakir received burns to 58 percent of his body, Rani to 32 percent of her body and Riad to 38 percent of his body.

Lima Khanam, an officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence, said that they were informed of the blaze around 12:30 am, but local people managed to extinguish the flames before fire fighters get there.

Lima added that the fire is believed to have originated from an electrical short circuit.
