Distressed people start getting food in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM: The district administration has started distributing food items to the distressed people as they remained workless under the influence of the coronavirus pandemic in the city and district on Saturday.

The foods items including rice, pulse, sugar and oil were distributed among the people in the city’s Railway Station, Akhtaruzzaman Centre, Alankar, GEC and Wasa Intersections.

Chattogram Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md Kamal Hossain, Executive Magistrate Md Towhidul Islam, Jillur Rahman, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Sajib Kumar Chakrabartiya led the distribution activities.

Magistrate Towhidul Islam said they handed over a packet of 16.5 kilograms (kg) including 10 Kg of rice, two kg of flattened rice, one kg pulse, sugar, one litre oil and half kg noodles to each of the persons.

Besides, the district administration also sent the items to the poor people under the 15 upazilas in the district.

Concerned Upazila Nirbahi Officers and Assistant Commissioners (Land) are handing over the relief with the help of respective peoples’ representatives.

ADC Kamal Uddin said the district administration is working relentlessly so that none of the poor people in Chattogram remain unfed in this crisis moment.

People will not have to come for assistance rather the food will be sent to their houses, he said.

On the other hand, Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) introduced special home delivery service of necessary items for the people of the port city on Saturday.

Cops of the respective areas delivered items as requested by several families on the first day of the service.

Publicity for availing the service was also seen in some areas.
