CHATTOGRAM: The much-awaited kits for testing the coronavirus reached the Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infectious Disease (BITID) at Sitakunda upazila in the district on Wednesday.
Chattogram district Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi confirmed the matter and informed that primarily they got 100 kits and more to reach soon.The BITID started testing samples of suspected coronavirus patients since Wednesday afternoon, he said.
None of the persons kept in home-quarantine is yet to be found corona positive while eight of them successfully completed the 14-day quarantine period, said the civil surgeon.
On the other hand, the members of Bangladesh Army started activities along with the district administration.
They carried out miking asking people not to roam here and there unnecessarily in different areas of the city since Wednesday morning. Red flags were hoisted and stickers pasted at different houses where the returnees from the abroad remained in home-quarantine.
Executive Magistrate Md Towhidul Islam said they were sending the people who come out of residence without any reason back to home.
“We also closed a Korean Restaurant having presence of foreigners in the city’s Khulshi area on Tuesday. But, the restaurant was found in operation again on Wednesday morning. It was sealed off then,” said the magistrate.“As foreigners visited the restaurant defying the home-quarantine directive, two owners and three officials of it were sent to home-quarantine,” he said. On the other hand, a garment factory of Chattogram is producing some one lakh pieces of personal protection equipment (PPE).
The Heath Directorate awarded the work order to Smart Jacket Limited of Chattogram Export Processing Zone. Of the order, some 50,000 PPEs were delivered on Tuesday while the rest 50,000 will be delivered within short time, said sources.
