The number of active internet connections in the country has jumped by 738,000 last month to reach 99,984,000 amid the Coronavirus fallout, which is forcing people to maintain social isolation and avoid face to face interactions.

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) disclosed the latest figures in its update on the country’s internet data usage in February.

Cell-phone operators hold the major share of 94.25 per cent of the internet connectivity with 94.23 million active connections. Broadband operators have 5.743 million connections while Wi-Max operators are still continuing with 5,000 internet connections, said the BTRC report.

Use of internet marked a steep spike amid the Coronavirus pandemic and its spread to Bangladesh.
