CHATTOGRAM: A septuagenarian person was allegedly beaten to death by his neighbour over a land dispute in the city’s Halishahar area on Wednesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Arun Kumar Shil, 70.

Family sources said Arun had a previous dispute over land with his neighbour. A case filed in this connection is under trial and the both parties locked in altercation centring the issue on Tuesday.   The feuding families also locked in quarrel on Wednesday morning and Arun died in an attack by the opponents at that time, claimed the sources.

However, Officer in-Charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam of Halishahar police station said the elderly person had been suffering from several diseases including diabetes and Tuberculosis.

He might have died of the disease during the quarrel, said the OC. Investigation was going on to reveal actual reason behind the death, he added.
