Nine shops gutted by Ctg fire

Chattogram: At least nine shops were gutted in a fire that broke out in the Madarbari area of Sadargha in the city on Monday early morning.

The fire might have originated from a burning cigarette around 3:30am, said Abdul Mannan, Senior Station Officer of Agrabad Fire Service and Civil Defense department.

On information, two vehicles of Agrabad station rushed to the spot and doused the blaze after an effort of one and a half hours. The extent of losses was estimated atTk 5 lakh, he added.

Meanwhile, a steel mill worker died after an iron bar fell on him at a steel factory in Tongi early Monday, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Abul Hashem. Emdad Hossain, officer-in-charge of Tongi Paschim Police Station, said the incident took place around 5am when the bar fell on the worker while he was working.

“He was killed on the spot,” the OC said.
