Road crashes kill five in 2 districts

Five people have been killed and several others injured in two separate road accidents in Naogaon and Chapainawabganj.

In Naogaon, at least three people were killed and two others injured as a truck hit an auto-rickshaw in Ferigate area of Manda Upazila Monday morning.

The deceased are named as Joynal Abedin, 45, Rafiul Islam, 36, and Ashraful Islam, 39.

Manda Police Station sub-inspector (SI) Aminul Islam said that the truck rammed the Naogaon-bound auto-rickshaw from behind on Naogaon-Rajshahi Highway at 9:30 am, leaving three passengers of the auto-rickshaw dead on the spot and two others injured.

Later, locals took the injured to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH), the SI added.

In another incident, two motorcyclists were killed as a truck ploughed into the bike in Prasadpur intersection in Gomastapur Upazila of Nawabganj on Sunday night.

The victims are -- Joynal Abedin Titu, son of Elias Ali of Old Prasadpur Hathatpara area, and Sirajul Islam, son of Khuddam Ali, of the same area.

The truck was seized, but its driver and his assistant managed to escape, Jasim Uddin, Officer-in-Charge of Gomastapur Police station said.
