Ensuring food, nutrition a challenge to govt, says Minister

Agriculture Minister Dr Mohammad Abdur Razzaque on Thursday said it is a big challenge to the government to ensure food and nutrition for all in the country.

“The present government has given priority on nutrition and food security in the election manifesto and the government is determined to ensure food and nutrition for the country. It is a big challenge to ensure food with nutrition for all,” he said.

The agriculture minister made the comments while addressing as chief guest at a programme titled “Climate change: To do ensuring food security and safe food” at the auditorium at Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) in the capital. Mohammad Abdur Razzaque said the government has already taken various initiatives to make the goal successful.

Due to climate change as well as increasing population and decreasing agricultural land, the present government has reduced prices of fertilizers for several times and distribute agricultural credit to increase food production of the country, he said.

Besides, the government also gives priorities to research and provide incentives for making the country self-sufficient in food production, Razzaque said. The climate change creates bad impact on people’s lives and livelihoods around the world. And so people of all countries have concerned over climate change,” the minister said.
