30 shanties gutted in N’ganj warehouse fire

Narayanganj: About 30 shanties were gutted in a fire that broke out at a ‘jhut’ (garments scrap) warehouse in Isdiar Bazar area in Fatullah on early Sunday, reports UNB.

The fire originated at around 3:30am and soon engulfed over 25-30 shanties around the warehouse, said Abdullah Al Arefin, deputy director, Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defence. 

Seven units from Demra, Hajiganj, Mondolpara and Narayanganj Fire Stations rushed to the spot and doused the fire after one and a half hours of frantic efforts, he said.

The cause of the fire could not be known yet.

Meanwhile, a man was killed and nine others , including two children, were injured as a boiler of a rice mill went off in Chowrongibazar area of Sadar upazila on Sunday, reports UNB.

 The deceased was identified as Soleman Ali, 40, son of late Abbas Ali.

Witnesses said when some workers were boiling rice in the mill the boiler exploded, killing Soleman on the spot and injuring others. 

The injured were rushed to Sadar Hospital.

 Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Abdullah Al Mamun said local administration has taken steps to provide proper treatment and financial assistance to the wounded.
