Six members of ICC Under-19 World Cup winning Bangladesh team were drafted in Bangladesh Cricket Board XI as BCB announced the BCB XI for the two-day practice game against Zimbabwe on Sunday.
World Cup winning captain Akbar Ali is part of the six-member group which includes Parvez Hossain Emon, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Shoriful Islam, Shahadat Hossain, Tanzid Hasan Tamim.Notably, no players of the current national team were considered for the match. The game will be held on February 18 to February 19 at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP).
“We have included them as others are taking part in Bangladesh Cricket League and we should not assume anything beyond that,” said selector Habibul Bashar.
“They are young players and we have long-term plans about them and are not interested push them anywhere which can be strenuous for them at the moment,” he said.
Zimbabwe arrived in the country on Saturday to play a full-fledged bilateral series, comprised of a Test, three ODIs and two T20Is.
After the two-day practice game, Zimbabwe will take on Bangladesh for the lone Test, starting February 22 at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
