RU female students outshine males in getting gold medals

RAJSHAHI: The female students of Rajshahi University (RU) are securing more gold medals for their outstanding performances at honors and masters result in their respective faculties.

In last eight years, RU students achieved 70 gold medals for their outstanding performance from Prime Minister Office where female students secured 37 gold medals.

Nine female students out of thirteen under Arts Faculty received Deans’ Award for their outstanding academic results in BA and BPA (honors) examinations of 2018 as recognition to their academic achievements. In other faculties, female students are on at top position for their outstanding performance.

Besides, three female students out of four received the Khandaker Monowar Memorial Award on July 26, 2018.  Earlier, four female students out of four were also selected for the Momtazuddin Gold Medal Award.

Besides, they are getting more awards at deans’ award, Agrani Bank Gold Medal and many departments basis award of the campus for their extraordinary performances in the examinations.

The Prime Minister Gold Medal was introduced in 2005 as an effort to encourage the talented students of the universities in the country.

Anika Nusrat, one of the students to have received the award in 2015 from pharmacy dept, said that she attained her goal through regular study, firm determination and regular presence in classroom and tutorials.

RU Prof Laila Arjuman Banu, who is second female student adviser, said the fundamentalist attitude towards the female students has changed. Female students are more careful in planning their careers than their male counterparts, she added.
