On the final day of Bangladesh national team’s training session before departing for the first phase of three-legged Pakistan tour, Bangladesh skipper Mahmudullah Riyad said, handing over the responsibility of captaincy on long term-basis would be much more dynamic in terms of constructing proper plans regarding the team as the Twenty20 World Cup is approaching closer.
Since the last year’s one-day World Cup, Bangladesh national team players saw their leadership of the team shifting in four shoulders from the Sri Lanka tour to the last tri-nation T20 series at home.As Shakib Al Hasan not being available due to his suspension and has no hope to return during the T20 World Cup, Bangladesh Cricket Board is assigning its leaders on a temporary basis for their scheduled series.
Mahmudullah, who is now announced captain for the forthcoming tour in Pakistan for three-match T20 series, said full-term captaincy would help the team to make a proper plan rather than going after series-based captainship.
“If the responsibility is given on a full-term basis, then I definitely think it will be helpful for planning,” Mahmudullah told reporters at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
“(But) It is completely a decision of the boar,” he added.
“As I am given the responsibility for this series, I’ll try to utilize the responsibility properly. Because the responsibility of captaincy is coming series by series. And if trustworthy (as captain), then I am thankful. And I think Russel (Domingo) is a very experienced coach and he knows how to handle all the players of the team,” Mahmudullah told, adding that he also discussed with the President of the Board regarding the team’s plan for the T20 World Cup.
“I have discussed more and less with (Nazmul Hasan) Papon bhai. When Russel was outside and we were playing in BPL, we communicated through Whatsapp. Even when we were in India, we discussed how we would manage the team for the T20 World Cup,” Mahmudllah added.Mahmudullah led the Bangladesh team in the three-match T20 series against India where Bangladesh were triumphed in the first match back in November last year.
