Bangladesh Under-19 National Cricket Team left-arm medium pacer Mrittunjoy Chowdhury said on Monday that they are eyeing to hold on to their winning momentum as they are preparing to take on Scotland in their second game of the ongoing ICC Under-19 World Cup in South Africa.

In the rain-interrupted first match, Bangladesh beat Zimbabwe by 9 wickets to start their campaign on the right note.

While Bangladesh registered their first win in their first match, Scotland suffered a 7-wicket defeat against Pakistan but according to Mrittunjoy they are making sure that they are well aware about the strength of the Scottish team.

“Every time we play we only aim to win,” Mrittunjoy told reporters ahead of their second game of the group phase.

“We played well in the last match against Zimbabwe and we will try to continue that winning streak,” he said.

“We have not played against them (Scotland) before but saw their batting videos in the ICC website. They did not play well and we are very hopeful we will do well against them,” he said.

“It feels good to win the first match of any tournament. The first win was good for us and more so because everybody performed well,” he said.

In the first game, Bangladesh needed to score 130 runs in 22 overs after the rain halted the game. Zimbabwe batted first after losing the toss and scored 137 runs for 6 wickets in 28.1 overs.

Bangladesh chased down the target in 11.2 overs with an aggressive batting show from Tanzid Hasan (32 off 10 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes), Parvez Hossain Emon (58* off 33 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes) and Mahmudul Hasan Joy (38* off 26 with 5 fours).

After Scotland, Bangladesh will take on Pakistan in their last Group C game on January 24 at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom.

A total of 16 teams are playing in the Under-19 World Cup splitting into four groups. Top two teams of each group will qualify to Super League quarter-finals while the bottom two teams will have to play in Plate quarter-finals.

The winners of Super League quarter-finals will advance to the Semifinals while the winners of the Plate quarter-finals will qualify for the Plate semifinals.
