Seychelles reached the semifinals of ongoing Bangabandhu International Gold Cup Football Tournament due to a healthier goal difference as their second and last Group B match against Mauritius ended in a 2-2 draw at Bangabandhu National Stadium in the capital on Monday.
With the day’s feat, Seychelles emerged as the Group B runners-up with one draw and one defeat. The East African team will now play against Group A Champions Palestine in the first semifinal on Wednesday while Group B Champions Burundi will face hosts and Group A Runners-up Bangladesh in the second semifinal on Thursday at the same venue.In the day’s match, Midfielder Gervais Waye-Hive and forward Perry Moniaie netted one goal each for Seychelles while substitute forward Alex Ferre and midfielder Adrien Francois level the margin scoring one goal each for Mauritius.
Seychelles scored in the 19th minute of the match while midfielder Gervais netted the ball with a right-footed grounder from inside the box utilizing a short cross from midfielder Brandon Labrosse (1-0), who wasted a close chance in the 14th minute.
In the 28th minute, forward Perry Moniaie doubled the margin while Mauritius defender Pitghen Adrien failed to resist him in the danger zone (2-0).
After conceding two shocking goals, Mauritius came alive and tried to level the score-line after the half-time. In the 68th minute, substitute forward Alex Ferre, who came in the place of defender Antoine Jordan, sent the ball home with a header to reduce margin, off a corner by captain Pascal Balisson in the 67th minute (2-1).
In the stoppage time (91st minute), midfielder Francois netted the equaliser while Seychelles defender cup captain Warren Mellie made a blunder inside the box (2-2).
