BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday said they are going to participating in the city corporation elections, as they believe it will help strengthen their party.
He also slammed the Awami League government, as ‘no necessary steps have been taken to ensure a credible election’.“This Commission has so far failed to perform its duties properly. The rescheduling of the voting is another proof of their incompetence,” Fakhrul added.
Mirza Fakhrul made the statements when he along with BNP’s mayoral candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Tabith Awal was conducting electoral campaign in front of Baitul Mosharraf Jam-e-Mosque near Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in the city’s Mirpur area in the morning.
The BNP secretary general distributed leaflets and asked for votes from people of all walks of life for sheaf of paddy, the election symbol of the BNP, in the upcoming elections.
They will also mobilize public support for release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and ‘restoration of democracy’, he said. He claimed that the party has a widespread public support and also expressed the hope that Tabith will win the city corporation polls slated to be held on February 1.
