More 109 Bangladeshi workers have been deported empty-handed from Saudi Arabia on Thursday.

A flight of Saudi Airlines carrying the workers landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka on the day.

With the fresh returnees, a total of 1,610 Bangladeshi workers have been sent back in last 16 days.

BRAC Migration Programme with the assistance of Expatriate Welfare Desk provided emergency aids to the workers.

A total of 24,789 Bangladeshis were deported from Saudi Arabia so far. All of them returned empty-handed, said Shariful Hasan, programme head of BRAC Migration Programme.

Almost 60,000 male migrant workers were sent back from different countries in 2019. Around 30,000 returned home from Saudi Arabia alone, said BAIRA Secretary General Shamim Ahmed Chowdhury.

Saudi police deported many Bangladeshi workers even though they had their ‘Akama’ (work permit),” he said.
