Jatiya Oikya Front convener Dr Kamal Hossain on Thursday said fair atmosphere does not exist in the city ahead of the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) elections slated to be held on January 30.

“Violation of election code of conduct by ruling party candidates and MPs and putting obstacles in the campaign of the Oikya Front-supported candidates prove that there is no fair atmosphere. The Election Commission is not taking any action either,” he said.

The Oikya Front chief made the statements while addressing a press conference at his Motijheel chamber in the capital after a meeting of the steering committee of Jatiya Oikya Front on the city corporation elections and latest situation of the country.

He said that the opposition coalition will hold four wayside meetings in the DNCC and DSCC areas.

Dr Kamal Hossain, also president of Gono Forum, slammed the Election Commission for fixing up the election on the day of Saraswati Puja.

He called upon the government to ensure a free, fair and neutral election. Without election, democracy can’t be imagined, he said. The Oikya Front convener further alleged that share market of the country has been destroyed through various manipulations during the rule of Awami League.
