A group of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men on Friday burned copies of Dainik Sangram for citing hanged Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdul Quader Molla as ‘Shaheed’ (martyr).

They burned the copies of the newspaper in front of Madhur Canteen on the university campus.

“The Supreme Court has executed this man for his involvement in war crime.

But, how the editor of the newspaper shows such courage to cite this person as a martyr,” said BCL leader Rana Hamid.

“We demand strict punishment for the newspaper’s editor Abul Asad and a ban on this newspaper immediately,” he added.

Another BCL leader Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury Sajib said the newspaper denied the independence of Bangladesh by citing the executed Jamaat leader as a martyr.

The newspaper cited Abdul Quader Molla as a martyr on Friday.

On December 12 in 2013, Quader Molla was hanged for his crimes against humanity in the war of independence in 1971.
