Banker, his wife sued for embezzlement

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Tuesday filed a case against Mutual Trust Bank Ltd former Assistant Vice-president (AVP) Jahid Sarwar and his wife Farhana Habib on charges of embezzling nearly Tk 5 crore.

The anti-graft body’s assistant director Md Shafiullah filed the case with its integrated district office 1 in Dhaka against the couple under the money laundering act-2012 and prevention of corruption act-1947.

According to the case, the accused in collusion with each other embezzled Tk 4,97,80,000 from a account of a client of Banani branch in Mutual Trust bank Ltd through abusing power and forgery.

ACC public relation officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee said the couple embezzled nearly Tk 5 crore through forgery during the period of on October 30, 2016 to October 19, 2018.
