Theft in guise of journos!

Law enforcers arrested three members of an organised gang who have long being stealing valuables of participants at various programmes in the capital posing as journalists.

The Shooting Incident Investigation Team of the DB Serious Crime Investigation Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested the trio – Khairul Alam Khan alias Arif, 54, Kali Shangkar Munshi, 49, and Jahangir Alam alias Soban, 55, from Kalabagan in the capital on Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday, they stole the purse of Malaysian student Salwa Binte Julkaflil, 30, as she was participating in the 10th International Conference on Financial Criminology-2019 at United International University in the capital’s Badda area.

During the programme, she found out that she lost her purse containing Tk 16,400, five debit cards, a credit card, a Malaysian IC card, a driving licence, a toll card and two health insurances.

On the day of incident, a case was filed with Badda Police Station. The purse and all the things in it were recovered. 

Ashraf Ullah, additional deputy commissioner of Serious Crime Investigation Division, said that the three who attended conferences, workshops, human chains and other programmes and stole money, wallets, purses and other valuable things of the participants.
