Govt to implement Tk 47.47cr fisheries project in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI: State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Md Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru has launched fisheries development project of Taka 47.47 crore for improving living and livelihood condition of the marginalised and low-income group people through boosting fish production, reports BSS.

He launched the project through addressing the project inception workshop at Nanking Darbar Hall in Rajshahi city on Sunday as chief guest calling upon all concerned to attain the hundred percent goals of the project through discharging their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty.

The project titled “Fisheries Development in Rajshahi Division” will be implemented in 65 upazilas of all eight districts in the division in order to generate more livelihood scopes of the marginalized population besides reduction of poverty until December, 2022.

It will also help to boost production of fisheries as well as enhancing the productivity, said Kamrul Hassan, director of the project, while giving the salient feature of the project in his project-summary presentation.

He also said the project is intended to protect the endangered fish species through installation of fish sanctuaries and habitats.

Chaired by the Director General of Directorate of Fisheries (DoF) Kazi Shams Afroz, the opening ceremony was addressed, among others, by DoF Director Ronojit Kumar Paul, Deputy Director of Local Government Division Parvej Raihan and DoF Divisional Director Hassan Ferdous Sarker.

State Minister Ashraf Khasru said the country has attained self-sufficiency in fish production as the per capita fish consumption has increased to 62.58 grams per day against the demand of 60 grams.

He said Bangladesh has secured third position in producing fish in inland water-bodies while it is the fifth in aquaculture production.

Ashraf Khasru also said Bangladesh is marching forward rapidly under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

He urged the attending officials to supplement the government efforts of building Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

All the divisional, district and upazila level fisheries officials and others concerned attended the meeting.
