52nd DU convocation tomorrow

The 52nd convocation of Dhaka University (DU) will be held on Monday.

President Abdul Hamid, also Chancellor of the university, will formally inaugurate the event at DU central playground at 11.00am.

Besides, Nobel laureate in physics Professor Dr Takaaki Kajita, also director of the Institute for Cosmic Ray Research of Tokyo University in Japan, is scheduled to attend as the convocation speaker.

A total of 20,796 graduates confirmed their registration to participate in the convocation while 10,673 graduates from DU and 10, 044 graduates from DU affiliated seven colleges.

Around 79 teachers, researchers and students will be given 98 gold medals; 57 will be conferred with Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree while 14 will get Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degree.

The convocation speaker Takaaki Kajita will also be given Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) degree in the event.

Meanwhile, DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman, at a press conference held on Saturday, said, “We have completed all preparations required for the celebration.“

“We ask cooperation from all members of the DU family, Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Rapid Action Battalion, other law enforcement agencies and journalists to make the convocation ceremony successful,” he added.

There will also be two extended venues at Eden Mohila College and Dhaka College where graduates of the seven affiliated colleges of DU will participate and will be connected with the main venue through video conference.

On the other hand, centering the grand ceremony, a festive look was seen everywhere on the university campus. The graduates were enjoying with their friends and taking pictures and selfies wearing their convocation gowns.

Expressing excitement, Sazzadul Islam, a graduate said, “The biggest celebration of the university life is the convocation. I had been waiting for long for this day.“
