BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday urged the government to release their party chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail on humanitarian ground.

“Doctors said if her treatment is delayed, she may not be found in good health condition. Even she may expire. At least release her on humanitarian ground and provide her with necessary treatment,” he said.

The BNP leader said this while speaking at a discussion arranged by ‘90s DUCSU all-party students unity’ at the Jatiya Press Club in the capital. BNP chairperson’s adviser Amanullah Aman chaired the programme.

“How the BSMMU vice chancellor and doctors dare to say that she (Khaleda Zia) is in bad condition,” he also said.  The attorney general always tries to protect the interest of the government, Mirza Fakhrul alleged.

“We have been upset as no one noticed the matter of the Supreme Court and took action in the matter of contempt of court,” he said.

The ruling Awami League government is now staying in power through entente with the Jatiya Party of former autocrat HM Ershad, he commented.

To ensure the release of Khaleda Zia is matter of challenge for BNP. It is now their responsibility to free Khaleda Zia and ‘restore’ democracy through movement, he said.
