AUW launches weekend learning for staff

Asian University for Women (AUW) launched a free weekend learning center for the support staffs on its campus in the city’s MM Ali Road.

The initiative aimed at making educational opportunities accessible to the members of the staffs who maintain the university premises. 

The classes for the staff will be conducted by the AUW student volunteers under supervision of the management.

Addressing the launching session, the AUW Registrar Dr Dave Dowland said the university founder Kamal Ahmad is initiator of the effort.

“We want our employees to have benefit from the educational facilities of our university,” he said lauding the role of student volunteers who are turning their commitments into practice. 

Mentionable, the AUW has already been operating a community-based learning center for girls on its permanent campus site at Arefin Nagar of Bayezid Bostami area in the city.

The center is teaching English and personal development of skills free of charge to the daughters of Readymade Garment (RMG) factory workers, girls who live around the campus, the slum-dwellers and others from underprivileged communities.

The center is run by the Service Learning and Community Engagement Department under the leadership of Muhammad Obidur Rahman and cooperation from AUW student volunteers.
