BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday said the party chairperson Khaleda Zia will be freed from jail and democracy will be ‘restored’ in the country through mass movement.

“We are working to unite people of the country. Khaleda Zia will be freed and democracy will be restored through a mass movement which will be created by uniting entire people irrespective of party and view. Its my belief and will be,” he said. The BNP secretary general made the statement while speaking at a discussion arranged by Jatiyatabadi Shechchasebak Dal at the Supreme Court Bar association auditorium in the capital, marking the birth anniversary of the party’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman.

“Many people say it (current Awami league government) is an autocrat government. But actually it is more than that. It is fascism when there is nothing but ruling of one person,” he added.   Mirza Fakhrul said they will ensure release of Khaleda Zia and ‘restore’ democracy through movement under the leadership of Tarique Rahman.

“The current government has been beating BNP for last ten years and now it is beating people with onion and salt. The price of rice has been increased so much that people are suffering,” he added.   The BNP leader said they see light of hope under leadership of Tarique Rahman amid darkness, frustration and hopelessness.
