54 guns, 19 kg heroin seized in 6 months in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI: Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) recovered 54 firearms, 19 kilograms of heroin and arrested 783 people on various charges in different parts the region during the last six months, reports BSS.

The elite force seized the illegal firearms which included 33 pistols, four revolvers and contraband goods in different anti-crime drives in Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Naogaon, Natore and Joypurhat districts.

Commanding Officer of RAB-5 Mahfuzur Rahman told this at a press conference at his office here on Thursday adding that 16 on-shooter guns, one pipe-gun, 50 magazines, 166 rounds of bullets, 18.78 kilograms of heroin, 13,216 bottles of phensedyl, 1.44 lakh pieces of yaba tablets and 293 bottles and 30 canes of foreign wine were also recovered in six months drives that ended on Thursday.

He mentioned that eight pistols, one on-shooter-gun, 15 magazines, 31 bullets, 5.9 kilograms of heroin, 4,435 bottles of phensedyl, 56,579 pieces of yaba tablets and 181 kilograms of ganja were recovered from Rajshahi city areas alone.

Rahman also told the journalists that 10 militants, 26 arms-traders, 673 drugs-traders, 23 absconders, three fake currency traders, four abductors, four smugglers and two cyber criminals are among the 783 arrestees.
