‘Initiatives to be taken to ensure safe childbirth’

Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque on Sunday said initiatives will be taken to ensure safe childbirth in all government hospitals.

“Initiatives will be taken to ensure 24 hours facilities for pregnant mothers in all government hospitals so that they can give birth to healthy child,” he said.

The health minister came up with the remark at a conference at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC). National Newborn Health Center of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) arranged the programme marking the ‘World Prematurity Day 2019’.

He said it is possible to achieve the target by next two years, if all of health sector works properly.

Chaired by Health Service Division Secretary Ashadul Islam, the programme was also addressed among others by Alam Ara Begum, Director General of Directorate General of Nursing and Midwifery (DGNM), Dr AE Md Mohiuddin Osmani, Joint Chief of Planning of the Health Ministry, Dr Bardan Jung Rana, WHO representative and Tomoo Hozumi, UNICEF representative.
