Doctor sued over pregnant woman’s death

Police arrested a doctor after he conducted a caesarean at a private clinic leading to the death of a pregnant woman in Jashore town early Friday.

The arrestee is Paritosh Kumar Kundu, doctor of ‘Bandhan Hospital and Diagnostic Center’ on Jail Road of the the district town.

Earlier, a grocery shop owner Ismail Hossain, husband of the victim Moyna Khatun, 25, of Khoyertala area in the Sadar upazila, filed a complaint with Kotwali Model Police Station after his wife died during the cesarean.

Ismail said the hospital authorities told them that there was no other way to save the mother and child without a caesarean delivery.

“They hid the news of my wife’s death during the operation and told us to take her to Khulna on an emergency basis at around 1.30am,” Ismail added.  As the news spread, local people caught the doctor when he tried to get out of the hospital.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Model Police Station Moniruzzaman said they arrested the doctor that night after finding primary proof of his negligence.
