The government has formed a committee aiming at acquiring land for implementation of the mega projects in the country.
In this regard, the Ministry of Land has already issued a circular following the instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Muksodur Rahman Patwary, secretary of the ministry of land, will head up the committee.Secretaries of bridge division, power division, energy and mineral resources division, public administrative division, information and communication technology division, industries ministry, railway ministry, roads and highway division, water resources division, shipping ministry, managing director of high-tech park, executive chairman of Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) and director general of prime minister’s office will be members of the committee.
If any secretary is unable to join the committee as member, the ministry concerned will send any additional secretary as their representative, the circular states.
The committee will hold the first meeting on Sunday (November 16), Muksodur Rahman Patwary told daily sun on Saturday.
The committee will sit every month and collect necessary data and information for acquiring land for the target projects.
If needed, the committee will also visit fields of the proposed projects for acquiring land, he said.
The committee has also been authorized to settle any dispute arising from the move of land acquisition. The committee will start acquiring land according to the priority of projects, the secretary said.The government has banned acquisition of farmland being used twice or thrice a year for producing crops, the secretary said.
The country has lost over 68,000 hectares of farmlands to different development projects across the country.
