BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy accessed the syndicate for increasing the prices of onion in the country.
“Market manipulation by a syndicate is responsible for increasing the prices of onion in the country,” he said. The senior leader of the party made the comments while addressing a commemoration meeting of former mayor of undivided Dhaka City Corporation and BNP vice chairman Sadeque Hossain Khoka at Jatiya Press Club in the capital on Friday.
Nagorik Odhikar Andolon Forum, a pro-BNP platform, organised the meeting. A doa mahfil in memory of Sadeque Hossain Khoka was also held in the programme.
Terming the skyrocketing onion prices artificial, the BNP leader said if parliament can be formed through elections without participation of the voters, cooking is also possible without this essential ingredient.
About the party’s activities, Gayeshwar Chandra said his party is now practicing self-defending politics as the party is not active in the streets. “BNP’s movement is now centred only at Jatiya Press Club and it’s central office in Nayapaltan. At present, the party’s politics has turned into self-defending,” he said.
Expressing his dissatisfaction over the release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail, Gayeshwar said her release will have to be ensured through strict movement and struggle.
In his speech, the senior leader also criticised the party’s decision on participating in the 11th parliament election without ensuring Khaleda Zia’s release.“If the party would place one-point demand of Khaleda’s release then their demand was met”, he said.
Besides, Gayeshwar also urged BNP leaders and activists to get united and ready to take to the streets for releasing their party’s chairperson Khaleda Zia.
