War on drugs to save the nation stressed

RANGPUR: Combined efforts of police, teachers, students, youths, guardians and common people have now become imperative to resist abuse of drug for building a peaceful and prosperous nation.

Superintendent of Police (SP), Rangpur district Biplob Kumar Sarker viewed this at a rally against drug, terrorism and militancy organised by Pirgachha Thana police at Pirgachha upazila parisahd auditorium on Wednesday afternoon as the chief guest, reports BSS.

Teachers and students of different educational institutions, guardians, members of local community policing, civil society members and leaders of different socio-cultural, religious organisations and professionals participated in the rally. Presided over by Officer-in-Charge of Pirgachha Thana Rezaul Karim, Additional SP Fazle Elahi, Pirgachha upazila Chairman Shah Mohammad Mahbubar Rahman, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Jasmine Prodhan, President of Pirgachha upazila community policing committee Principal Fakhrul Aman Benzu and President of upazila Awami League Taslim Uddin, were among others, addressed the rally .

SP in his speech said it was now indispensable that all have to make the young generations aware of disastrous consequences of drug abuse, terrorism and militancy to turn them into able and patriotic citizens for building a developed Bangladesh by 2041. Other speakers said drug addiction destroys talent of the youths and everybody has social obligation to raise massive anti-drug awareness for keeping the students away from drugs. They discussed various grievous impacts of drug abuse, terrorism and militancy and laid emphasis on creating mass public awareness against drug, militancy and terrorism for building a society free from these social menace.

Later, the SP distributed tree saplings among students to encourage them in tree plantation for protecting nature and improving environment in the backdrop of alarming threat of the changing climate.
